Reformed Forger Given Work in Dubuque Factory

Howard B. Whitney, released from Ft. Leavenworth after a four year sentence, was given a factory job in Dubuque days after a U.S. district court session. Accompanied by deputy marshal Harry Gleason, Whitney sought “gmake good” through steady labor following his prior conviction for forging postal money orders tied to a Waterloo incident. Whitney’s prompt employment marks a marked turn from his past crime and imprisonment.

Enormous Output of One Creamery in Decorah Iowa

In June the Ice Cave creamery in Decorah produced 82,276 pounds of butter, with a single day output of 6,005 pounds and July last week. The month saw 7,718 pounds sold to residents and buttermilk sales of $480. County butter output in Winneshiek likely exceeded 200,000 pounds.

Official Crop Report Shows Good Yields Across Iowa

Agricultural statistician Frank Pinney reports Iowa has 101 million acres of corn this year, up 200,000 acres, with 90 percent growing condition. Farmers expect benefits to exceed costs with payments over 10 years at 6 percent interest on unpaid installments.
