Mayan Tribe Secrets Unearthed by Researchers in Guatemala
Oliver La Farge and Douglas Byers of Tulane University returned from 91 days with Huehu tenango tribes in Guatemala reporting a discovery of ancient Mayan religious rites. They describe retention of the Mayan calendar, secret pagan practices, and a shift toward Christian forms under priestly oversight. The finding suggests Mayan religious life deeply influenced by ancestral beliefs rather than sun worship or widespread human sacrifice.
