Nes Moines July 7 The legislature session sparked talk of possible candidacies for state offices. W F Moore Guthrie Center announced for lieutenant governor joining James Wilson Appanoose and Arney Marshalltown in the governor race while W T Evans Parkersburg and Joe Frailey Lee County considered attorney general. Thompson Burlington announced for Congress First District. Rawson Des Moines to run for governor as Republican organizer plans campaign. Tinley Council Bluffs to stay out of race. Ainsworth Des Moines seeks secretary of state. Ramsey Belmond named to succeed Allen as secretary of state candidate. Gose Jefferson so far sole candidate for auditor.

Elopement Ends in Success After Auto Trouble

In July 7 notes from Trucr Ta a Tama county girl and a Marshalltown man faced two car breakdowns and engine trouble during a late night elopement. Love and patience prevailed as a justice of the peace officiated in the early hours, naming Mi Vira El Meeker of Chelsea Nauman and Marshalltown as the principals.

Colored People of South See Hope in Use of Franchise

Elbert R. Hall, president of Des Moines NAACP, returns from Cleveland conference to report the South seeks a solution to the race problem and that Atlanta invites the next meeting. He says southern colored people will gain full franchise soon, with focus on suffrage and equal rights in education, juries, parks, libraries, and employment. About 400 delegates from 225 branches in 38 states attended.

Weet Union Man Charged with Murder After Three Girls Run Over

Dale Holmes, 20, was charged July 4 with second degree murder and released on $2,000 bonds. A June 20 collision two miles south of West Union left 8-year-old Gladys Nelson dead from a skull fracture, her sister Helen injured, and Pearl Avr and another girl lightly hurt. The incident occurred as Holmes drove at high speed after a dog, striking the three girls as they attempted to ride, with the driver Roberts also injured.

Belgian Soldier Dies After Treatment At University Hospital

Albert Latome a Belgian soldier who came to the United States for medical care after fighting in France died at the University hospital in Iowa City. He was 35 and to be buried there until his Belgium-based brother can be reached. Sergt. Maj. Mater led the funeral in military fashion. The Haskell Klaud law extends free hospital care to state adults, while Perkins law aids children.

Tama farmer refuses 364000 for farm he paid 640

In Tama, William Philp marked his ninetieth birthday by declining to consider 400 per acre for his 16 acre Tama county farm, a price he says will never persuade him to sell. He bought 320 acres in 1864 for 3 an acre and later paid an extra dollar amid a land boom. He lost a leg and never married.

Tragedy at Prescott Grade Crossing Kills Williams Family

Prescott Iowa July 7 a Burlington train struck an auto at a grade crossing killing Mrs Williams 24 instantly and her husband 44 and their 6 year old son died en route to Creston hospital. Three children injured though not seriously. The car was hit center and thrown over 100 feet. The family was returning home from Prescott.

Farmer near Traer ends life at farm home

Traer Iowa July 7 Charles Dvorak living southwest of the city shot himself in the head at his farm home yesterday forenoon. His wife found the body upstairs after hearing the gun report. Cause not known though neighbor trouble is rumored to have weighed on him.
