Brookhart Set to Lead at Iowa State Conventions

Des Moines July 1 Delegates to the August state convention will largely back Col. Smith Brookhart. His broad support stems from June 5 when 76 of 99 counties backed him for U S senator and from continued alignment with his railroad program. Opposition exists to some platform planks and bloc tactics, with Boyd criticizing railroads’ regulation and warning of possible bankruptcy or government ownership. Herring prepares a keynote speech at Sibley as campaign tensions rise with Brookhart and Democrat Clyde Herring in the race.
