Why Memorial Is Not Moved in Des Moines

Des Moines Jan 31 The state executive council replies to Senator Geo W Ball of Jefferson County about why the Allanson monument has not been moved as in a law from the Thirty seventh general assembly. The council cites the statute allowing discretion over the permanent location and notes to remove the monument may be authorized. Ball, a veteran, pressed to fix present location of the Soldiers and Sailors monument as the remaining site. The capitol extension and the Allison monument’s status complicate action. The council notes the Allison monument is largely a gift from out-of-state donors and never formally transferred to Iowa. The Senate seeks a report on the capitol extension fund and future grounds work, part of the ongoing capitol extension dispute.
