American Indians Aiding British Dye Industry
Stratford-on-Avon man Dennis Baker reports that American Indian dyed wool fabrics are becoming popular in England. He learned natural dye techniques in the West Woods and has broadened the use of vexelabls dyes by mixing native American colors with traditional Indigo Persian and oriental shades. The revival parallels Morris’s medieval dyeing revival, prompting English mills to move away from harsh aniline dyes toward traditional methods to restore fabric quality and durability.
