Yale field records two minute total eclipse study

New Haven reporters and scientists gathered as the sun's corona and shadow bands appeared during a total solar eclipse. Yale's Ernest A Brown led observers while Swarthmore's J A Miller coordinated teams. A 13 year old boy and two women aided in photographing with advanced cameras as the city halted briefly for the event United States east coast observers marked the first total eclipse in the region since 1808.

Central Shop Foreman Hurt in Repair Pit Incident

Albert G Kann of 118 Harrison street was injured at Central shops when a driver’s supports failed and a wheel fell on him. Taken to St Francis hospital, doctors found no broken bones but suspected internal injuries. He remained under observation and was expected to go home in a few days.

Whittier Plans Jowa Memorial Hall With Iowa Library

Whittier California officials announce the Whittier Towans Association plans an Iowa Memorial Hall on the Whittier College campus. The building will house an Iowa historical library the Iowa Hall of Fame reception rooms and spaces for visitors and Towans. Judge Madison T Owens noted as a leader in the effort. January escape case involves Charles Wagner 27 held for investigation in the county jail. Wagner was named by Toledo Iowa police as a suspect in a jail break.

President Watches Solar Eclipse From White House Window

President Coolidge, bundled with Mrs. Coolidge, observed the sun eclipse from a rear White House location. Despite cold, he remained for five minutes looking through a smoked pane instrument as the event showed about six percent totality in Washington.

Refitted Wagner Hotel Reopens as Hotel Lory on Sycamtore

The Wagner Hotel at 617 Sycamtore Street has been renamed Hotel Lory under new management. Extensive interior work, new plumbing, and canopy canopies are planned, with hot and cold water in each room once complete. Rooms and halls will be decorated within a week, and new carpets will be laid throughout. W Lory, from Wisconsin, purchased the hotel from the Wayne estate and renamed it Hotel Lory.

Funeral rites set for Liles P. Alls near Ackley

Liles P. Alls, aged about, died at the home of Mrs. Wm. Durienwald in Avalon after heart and kidney complications. Funeral services will be held Monday at Kearns funeral parlor with burial at Ackles, his former home. He came to the United States about years ago, lived in Freeport, then La Porte City, Dy Sart, Ackley, and Waterloo. He was a member of the Methodist church at Ackley. Surviving are his widow and twelve daughters including Mrs. W. H. Young of Waterloo and Mrs. Wm. Bue, Enwald, Waterloo, among others.
