Military honors for Vowa soldier memory of Capt Sheehan
Funeral services for Capt Edward M Sheehan died of pneumonia at Camp Cody New Mexico were held at St Johns church with full military honors. The largest congregation yet gathered in Independence attended as city officials civic groups and relatives paid tribute. He was born 1880 in Independence and served in the Iowa national guard medical corps on the Mexican border and in World War I before settling in Independence.

Alden Times Plant Burns After Change of Ownership
Alden Iowa January 19. The Alden Times plant, destroyed by fire yesterday, had just been sold to C C Shatffer of Omaha who had secured possession hours earlier. The fire started about 3 30 am and burned until noon, confined to the frame building owned by the Button estate. Upper floor apartments were looted of belongings while some stock was saved. Insurance covered 1600 on the building and 3650 on the plant across several companies. The retiring editor Roy G B McWilliams previously worked in Rockwell and Randolph Enterprise. New quarters and equipment will be provided and next week's issue will be issued as usual.
