Bride and groom freed as annulment ends short marriage
Des Moines reports Dave Mc Dermott, from Anita, was granted freedom from his marriage to Mildred Stevens McDermott after Judge Lester Thompson ruled the wife had another living husband. McDermott, remaining upbeat, said he plans to seek a new partner within a year and may use a matrimonial agency if needed. He disclosed spending $85 for shopping and $500 on clothing and a diamond during the brief union, which ended 24 hours after the ceremony. Witness affidavits indicated the wife had been living with another man, leading to the annulment and loss of a $15,000 alimony motion. The woman reportedly left for Chicago.
