Rural Butler county schools vary in size and cost
In Butler county Iowa the smallest rural school was district No 4 in Dayton township with three pupils. It cost 25 dollars per pupil per month to operate not including fuel. A Kesley area school two miles northeast charged 11.20 dollars per pupil monthly and closed for winter. The largest, one mile east of Kesley, enrolled 29 pupils.
