Pioneer of Tama Dies Near Traer
Gilvert McDowall longtime Tama County settler and one of the area’s early arrivals from Scotland died at his home west of Traer after a long illness. Born in Scotland, he and his family settled near Traer in the 1860s and built the Tranquillity church site later. He was married to Margaret Sprole in 1866 and left five children, all predeceasing him, with only Miss Irma Whannel as a descendant surviving. Burial was held Thursday.
