Currency Law Changes and Bank Sector Shifts
The Currency Measure is praised as a major constructive law aimed at elastic currency and government control through national banks. It seeks to prevent reserve concentration in New York, ease stringency in hard times, and require banks to join the federal system, with penalties for noncompliance. Smaller-town banks may benefit from lower reserve needs and stronger liquidity, while state banks may convert to national status. many applications have been filed as the system is tested and implemented.
