Rebel Bullet Carried by Civil War Veteran for 54 Years
M Dewey of 1010 Randolph Street has carried a rebel gun bullet in his body since the Civil War. An X ray by doctors shows the lead pellet lies within an inch of the spinal column near the left hip. Dewey, a member of Company B Twelfth Infantry, was wounded at the second battle of Corinth, Mississippi, and the bullet would have been fatal if it passed through. He has endured decades of pain and uses no plan to extract it. Includes small ads for winter footwear and a church program.
