Fire Loss Year Reports Brutal Winter for Silvers Industry

A 19th century city fire report details two thirds of the year’s fire losses amounting to about 97 thousand dollars, dominated by the Silvers Fire Company and a major plant on Linda Avenue. It notes 574 fire alarms, 11 fires over four thousand dollars, and a winter peak with furnace and chimney fires. The year logged 41 automobile blazes, 12 factory calls, and 44 business building fires, with false alarms briefly curbing activity. Firefighters saved lives, upgraded gear, and operated with 49 personnel across two shifts under Chief Ray Tiller.
