Belgian Children Enjoy Free Rein During Christmas Holidays
Belgian children revel in Saint Nicholas on December 6 with gifts from many, while a second round on Christmas Day follows. December 28 Innocents Day lets kids wear parents’ clothes and assume control at home, with Christmas mostly religious and New Year celebrations bold but orderly. New Year’s Eve features rounds of visits, spirits, and feasting, followed by a calm New Year’s Day, while January 2 is a nationwide boxing day revel, with Belgians often avoiding work and flocking to saloons after church.
