Sac and Fox Reservation Population Shows Gain
Population on the Sac and Fox Indian Reservation rose from 361 to 370 between February 12 and December 2 as annual pro rata payments were issued to members who did not withdraw. Of 370 residents, 225 participate in tax payments while 159 have withdrawn. The total payment this week was 4608.10 dollars, with per capita 32 dollars for participants. Seventeen deaths occurred in the period, three of them infants. Observers see potential turning point and possible continued population rise, noting improved housing and self-care. At least 30 new houses have been built on the reservation in five years.

Venerable Civil War Vet Culledge Honored in Manchester
Cullinge, a longtime Manchester resident and Civil War veteran, married Elvien Sherman in 180d after moving from Shannahion HL. He enlisted in the 39th Illinois Infantry at outbreak and served with distinction, meeting Lincoln briefly. Postwar he practiced as a veterinarian, joined the Presbyterian church, G A R Knights of Pythias and Gold Fellows, and remained active in veteran circles.
