Hearst May Be Appointed to Washington Farm Bureau Post
An article from Chicago Daily Drovers Journal reports that C E Hearst, president of the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, may become the legislative representative of the American Farm Bureau Federation in Washington. The move follows an agreement among Illinois and Iowa leaders during a national convention to back S H Thompson for president and Edy O Neal for vice president, with Hearst’s appointment tied to securing southern votes and Muscle Shoals leverage while opposing broader export-crop policies. The net result is Hearst gaining the Washington post as part of a political pact amidst factional jockeying at the federation meeting.

Higher butter prices urged by Iowa dairies group
Clyde Bechtelheimer secretary of Iowa Creamery Secretaries and Managers association argues butter at 60.4 cents wholesale for a 92 score product is too high for the public. He urges dairymen to cut costs and raise efficiency rather than seek higher prices, noting subsidies in substitutes and calling for improved farming methods to sustain profits. He compares dairy and corn production to better planning and economies to avoid prohibitive retail prices.

Feeding corn to livestock would not boost 1928 crop value
Iowa official Charles D. Reed argues feeding corn to hogs and cattle adds little lasting value. He notes prices fall once grain and meat supplies rise, and that only a more orderly market and thorough cost accounting could reveal true profitability, with fertility and manure sustaining farm wealth.
