Marble Rock Iowa December 10 At the Red Cross sale the town and Scott and Union townships combined sold one pound of butter for 507 dollars. Fatal Farm Engine Fire Burns 14YearOld Boy
In Missouri Valley Iowa on December 16 a 14 year old boy, son of Mr and Mrs Bert Hoag, narrowly escaped death while starting a gasoline engine on the farm. He built a bonfire, tried to prime the engine with gasoline from a five gallon can, and his clothes caught fire. He ran to a water tank and jumped in, extinguishing the flames but his face and hands were badly burned. The engine was destroyed and a dog nearby was fatally burned.
