Furnace Explodes Near Tragedy At Miller Home

Yesterday afternoon at 4 o clock the furnace at J C Miller’s 329 Jefferson street exploded. Mrs Miller, alone upstairs, had not lit a fire in the hot water furnace. Ten minutes later another explosion sent soot and gas from the seller. The furnace, installed weeks ago, was badly damaged with a large casting torn from its base and hurled at the cellar wall. If Mrs Miller had descended seconds sooner she would likely have been killed by the flying metal. Gas surplus is suspected though the furnace had run only minutes. Better be insured than sorry.
