Expelled from Iowa Defense Council over sedition charges
Des Moines reports James M. Pierce a polisher of the Jews Homestead was expelled from the state council of national defense on Friday. Governor Harding’s approval is required. the governor was not present and is expected to return today. The council cited Pierce open defiance and attempts to organize the Nonpartisan League in Iowa as grounds for expulsion. Pierce attended, sought to read a reply, but was barred from the floor and allowed to hand his statement to the chair.

Auto drivers set marks at fair course in Des Moines
Four world automobile racing records on a half, two mile and other distances were broken at the town fair yesterday. Haugdahl in a chain-driven Fiat set a mile mark of 1 93 but not official, as no second clock signaled the distance. Eringboe on a Briscoe briefly beat the world mile record before Haugdahl eclipsed him. Ray Lampkin’s Sun Ray Roamer lowered the two mile world record to 2 09 60, then ENingboe in a Briscoe trimmed it to 2 08 flat.

State Fair Sets New High Record In Des Moines
