Aug 29 Independence Iowa D. Kirkendall and son Walter 10 drowned when a fishing boat capsized in 14 feet of water on the Wapsipinee river three-fourths mile north of town. Strong current pulled Kirkendall under while trying to reach his son eight other children survive the family widow. Funeral plans pending as relatives travel.
