Des Moines Aug 28 witnesses testified on the Associated Packing Company receivership hearing before Judge Edward M McCall. J J Dice of Cedar Rapids suggested reorganization could widen stock sales to Iowa farmers and discussed plans, misdoings, and the role of stock salesmen. Dice recalled receiving a $100 check for time spent with salesmen and Young paying $125 for stock, while denying fraud and resigning pressures.

Hoy brothers injured in threshing boiler blast at Rhodes farm
W H Hoy and C E Hoy, Rhode s brothers, were badly burned when the boiler of a threshing engine exploded on Walter Harbold s farm. W G Hoy suffered facial burns and may lose sight in the left eye, possibly the right as well. The other man had lighter injuries. Their father Isaac Hoy owned the outfit.

Lutheran College Remains at Jewell
The consolidation plan between Waldorf and Jewell colleges failed as Waldorf voted against merging. Jewell College will continue at Jewell with plans to expand campus by seven acres. Rev Ole Schefveland named financial secretary. fundraising exceeds $40,000 with over $100,000 more sought. Gymnasium is paid for and about $20,000 is pledged for a new dormitory costing over $100,000, with basement and first floor slated for this fall.

Farmers Elevator at Reeves 15 Burned in Big Loss
Trampton Ta Aug 28 Farmers near Reeves six miles south of the city suffered about a 15000 loss when the elevator at Reeves burned yesterday afternoon. About 10000 bushels of ceilers were destroyed and the explosion filled the room with flames. The new supply shed adjoining the elevator was destroyed and two railroad cars near the structure burned. Enos Price manager and George W Selix president of the company visited to assess damage.

Woman Shot at by Strange Man in Marshalltown Home
Mrs Wayne Harmon of Marshalltown Iowa was attacked in her bedroom Thursday night and shot through the right shoulder by an unknown man. She felt her way into the room when she touched a man and heard a gun report before a stinging sensation in her shoulder. She is expected to recover. Robbery did not seem the motive as nothing in the house was disturbed. Mc Kinley Elliott her brother in law has been taken into custody but charges are lodged against him.

The Franklin county recorder race gains a new candidate John F Menning a young soldier from Marion township son of George Menning He was born in the county and served in Co G Thirty eighth regiment In France he lost his left leg to a gunshot wound received at the Meuse Ardre sector.
