Fight to enlist is successful for Iowa man
Fred Ritter aged 48, an assemblyman for Waterloo Gasoline Engine, will enter the army after weeks of effort to enlist. Born in Alsace Lorraine when it was French soil, Ritter was initially denied for lack of naturalization papers. A legal review confirmed his French subject status, and Lieut. Wright authorized his acceptance. Ritter will join the signal corps to aid his nation. Also enlisting Wednesday are Ward Ciffie, 51, in the quarter master corps, and Jobo Koeh, 52, in the signal corps, both married and with families. Koeh follows a son already in service.
