Van Sweringens push dramatic railroad merger in east
The Van Sweringen brothers of Cleveland engineer a major merger uniting Nickel Plate with Chesapeake & Ohio Hocking Valley Marquette and more forming a $1.66 billion system with 34 357 miles of track. They plan to seek stockholder approval this month as they pursue further expansion including eastern and western terminals.
