Tire Prices Rise Amid High Crude Ruber Costs
The July issue of Tires links soaring crude rubber with a series of tire price hikes over the past three months. High pressure and balloon tires rose about 10 percent, 3 1/2 inch sizes and 279x440 balloons up five percent, tubes about 15 percent. Officials note tires remain cheaper than prewar levels, with rubber savings offsetting some increases as producers absorb part of the cost. The piece traces 1920s supply disruptions, steep crude drops then rises, and Britain’s Stevenson law as a failed attempt to stabilize rubber prices, while noting large gold coin minting plans for 1925.
