Iowa Bovine Tuberculosis Law Goes Into Effect

The new bovine tuberculosis law in Iowa took effect last night at 12 o'clock. It raises indemnities to 75 dollars for grades and 125 dollars for purebreds, cuts the ownership signature requirement for accrediting testing areas from 75 percent to 63 percent, and changes voting thresholds. The state seeks federal aid to cover the higher indemnities, with officials noting the law as an improvement over the prior statute and urging action from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
