Traer Power Plant Plans Ten Percent Rate Cut in May
Traer Iowa April 17 The Traer municipal power and water plant will cut light rates 10 percent starting with the May billing, with the minimum rate rising from 1.10 to 2.25 monthly. Regular rates of 16 kilowatts per month at 15 cents, next 40 kilowatts at 12 cents, and over 64 kilowatts at 7 12 cents were set years ago to meet coal and freight costs. The plant has recovered from wartime expenses and built a cash balance of 12,430 after paying 9,000 last year for new construction and equipment. The city considers adding two new oil burning generating units and possibly purchasing high tension line power as a cost-saving alternative, while keeping the municpal plant.
