Tax Commission Proposed to Equalize Iowa Tax Burden
County auditor J A Francis urged a three member tax commission per county to better distribute taxes in Iowa. He spoke to the Waterloo board of review during its first session, advocating cooperation between city and county taxing bodies and noting assessors hold the key to fair assessments. He warned current methods leave many properties under or over taxed, with examples of misvaluations and missed “pick up” assessments. A shift toward obligatory stockholder disclosures and stricter assessment rules was discussed, alongside the need to tackle inequities revealed by local cases.
