Rolled soils best for oats and corn in Orange township
Growers near Orange township report a corrugated roller improves oats and corn yields. On H W Miller farm, rolled oat fields stayed upright while unrolled areas lodged. five-thirds of an oat field rolled by Ira Fike showed visible row-by-row differences. Miller notes corn may yield 10 to 15 bushels more per acre with the roller if ground is dry, and warns against using on wet soil. Alfalfa growers also favor the roller for a firm seedbed and moisture conservation.
