Farmer of Floyd County Finds Why Seed Corn Pays
Charles City Va April 7 An experiment by a Wood County Farm bureau member tests seed corn selection and germination. Three lots were tested: early husked corn stored warm, crib corn stored dry, and corn stored warm after selection. The rag doll method measured germination strength by shoots and root growth. Lot one discarded 10-15 percent, lot two about 50 percent, and lot three over 50 percent unfit. Weather and dampness affected crib corn performance. the lesson is seed corn should always be tested for vigor before planting.
