Capitol Hit vivid satire on Washington lobby power

Washington Life novel Capitol Hit by Yarvey Fergusson exposes social lobby influence on Congress and cabinet, detailing how dinner party conversations and social favors steer policy and careers. A western congressman shifts to pro navy advocacy to gain favor, with intertwined commercial and social maneuvering. The book also hints at female behind the scenes tactics and a cynical central villain. A separate note reports a soft drink record predicted for 1828 with nationwide bottling volumes across Iowa cities.
