McGregor Iowa April 2 The unveiling of the Ottumwa Cedar Rapids and McGregor Auto trail will make Bixler s park with its remarkable natural ice cave and unique native juniper and white pine accessible to motorists this summer. The reserve is a premier scenic attraction of Towatho near the Delaware county line two miles from Edgewood and 15 miles north of Manchester. The highway now goes within a mile of it. Edgewood planning road improvements will let the trail pass directly to the park. A day trip from Cedar Rapids or McGregor offers several hours for an outing. The park owner R J Bixby an Edgewood banker and former Delaware county representative inherited the land from his father. The Bixby family preserved its natural beauty and about 18 years ago the owner built a log cabin beside Big Spring opened a canyon road and invited the countryside to a picnic. He dedicated the place to the public as a recreation center and it has been maintained since. A pleasant summer Sunday often brings a hundred picnickers.
