Joseph Brown aged 83 or 84, father of Dr. Roy M. Brown of Chapel Hill, died after paralysis and long illness. He lived in the Rutherwood area all his life, was buried in Brown cemetery, and his last rites were given by Professor J. M. Downam of Appalachian State Teachers College amid many old friends.
Mr S C Eggers reports from A L Brown associate editor of the Burley Tobacco Bulletin that on the 11th of November experts will visit Boone to advise local growers on tobacco culture and grading. Johnson City merchants sponsor the motorcade and a string band will play while hundreds of souvenirs are handed out. Further details follow in the next issue.

Eighteen Appalachian State Teachers College students depart Boone for Atlanta Ga to attend the Southwide Student Conference starting Sunday. The two day session will host delegates from eighteen states with an expected enrollment of at least 2900. Delegates from Boone include Gladys Swift Lillian Steele Lucile Miller Signora Alexandria Sadie Lindsay Marie Ball Grace Biggs Clements Louise Moore Ann Row Julit Douthit Jonas Waters Jene Waters Alton Young Jake Hagamen and Howard Wilson.
The Blowing Rock Christian Endeavor celebrated its 150th meeting led by Annie Coffey. Hob Nob Inn attracts tourists praising meals and steam heat. Ninth graders roasted marshmallows on Green Hill. Blowing Rock High defeated Grandfather in basketball. Halloween program planned October 30 with booths and refreshments.
In Pomeroy Ohio Miss Sarah Brannon owns a parrot that repeats the Lord's Prayer and sings Nearer My God to Thee. A neighbor entered the Brannon home and sang the hymn off key, prompting Polly to retort Hold on there Newt you ve lost the tune. Brannon says Polly swears more than she sings or prays.
Mrs. Luther M. Farthing, 55, wife of Watauga County Sheriff and Democratic candidate, was found dead in her East Boone yard. A .52 revolver lay beside her. coroner said death instantaneous. Funeral Thursday at Boone Baptist Church with Rev. P. A. Hicks officiating. Survived by husband and six children, plus three brothers and other relatives.
Boone churches observed home coming and began Child and Youth Week with a services, Sunday School program, and a sermon by Dr O J Chandler that moved a large audience and highlighted youth leadership.
Lees-McRae Bulldogs beat Lenoir High School Bulldogs 25 to 0 at Banner Elk home field. Cooke scored twice with plunges in the second quarter and Hoss and Dickerson added touchdowns with Clarke kicking the extra point. Rabb the Moores Maynard and Campbell starred for Lenoir.
