Charles G. Hodges of Boone Route 2 is named general field manager for the Salisbury branch of the Federal Land Bank. His commission arrived Thursday and he will supervise groups of six to ten appraisers, with work centered in the Piedmont. The appointment is indefinite.

Abram Potter Passes At Tamarack Home
Abram Potter age 85 died at his Tamarack home on October 20. Funeral services were held the following Sunday with burial in the Maine graveyard. A longtime Tamarack resident and devout Baptist, he was known as Uncle Abe and left eleven children and many grandchildren. Surviving children include Mrs General Maine, Johnnie Potter, Mrs Enoch Potter, Mrs Omie Martin, Mrs Jake Potter, Mrs David Martin, Clarence Potter, Ira Potter, Mrs Monroe Ward, and Leonard Potter.

Bridegroom Killed by Jealous Rival in North Fork Township
Don Wallace of North Fork Township wed the day before he died from a bullet wound in Elizabethton Hospital. Ford Wilson, 25, neighbor, is accused of firing point blank at Wallace after a brief confrontation near the Tennessee line. Wallace died two days later from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Wilson remains at large with authorities seeking clues. Both families are tied to Watauga County.

W Y Perry Dies After Forty Years as Cove Creek Teacher
William Y. Perry aged 63 of Cove Creek died at home last Thursday after a brief illness. A longtime teacher at Cove Creek High School he had been absent from work for several days. Funeral services were held at Cove Creek Baptist Church with J. A. McKaughan officiating. Interment followed in the local cemetery. He is survived by his widow and four children Thelma Maude Don Grady and John all residents in the area.

Blowing Rock merchant H. C. Hayes reported about twenty five dollars in merchandise and change missing after intruders entered Sunday night by boring into a rear window sash.
