Durham to Unveil Daniel Boone Tablet at Public Library

The Daniel Boone Memorial tablet will be unveiled at 3 PM Friday at Durham Public Library. The marker commemorates the Boone Trail highway, features Boone’s signature facsimile, and honors Durham County school children. J H Rich spoke at Durham High School about the trail’s route from Blue Ridge to the sea.

Box Supper Aids Road Project At Howard Creek Church

A pox supper is planned at Howard's Creek Church on Saturday night December 8 to raise funds for a road project from the state highway near Sands to the falls of Howard's Creek and onward to intersect with the Silverstone and Meat Camp roads. A similar supper on November 17 at Rich Mountain School House raised 85.46 dollars. The church invites the public to participate, with a Cicero quote on virtue included.

School dental clinic outreach report

Dr Holden state school dentist completed a month in the county treating 528 children. He performed 660 amalgam fillings 103 silver nitrate treatments 489 teeth cleaned and gave 16 care lectures. Total private cost 2256.00. He reached about half the schools and good will grew among children and parents. Fertilizer firms plan standard mixtures tested by experiment station agronomists next season to cut useless brands and reduce farmer costs.

Attorney L. D. Lowe Passes After Sudden Illness

On Thursday evening in Banner Elk Avery County North Carolina attorney L. D. Lowe a longtime prominent lawyer in the mountains collapsed at his typewriter and died from brain or heart trouble according to physicians.

Death of a North Carolina Lawyer Ends Long Career

In less than two minutes life ended for a prominent North Carolina lawyer born 1856 in Surry County. Dave Lowe moved to Bannerck in 1876, gained law license in 1884, served the community with public spirit, and died while preparing a Supreme Court case. Interment followed Tet Monday as family awaited his Florida bound daughter.

Death claims R N Hackett former NC congressman

Former Congressman R N Hackett died last Thursday at Long's Sanitarium after weeks of illness from kidney trouble and complications. Interment was at Presbyterian cemetery in North Wilkesboro on Saturday at 10 AM. He was 56, a former Grand Master of North Carolina Masons and counselor for a state railway company. Survived by brother Gordon Hackett of N Wilkesboro and daughter Lois Long Hackett.
