H R Niswonger state horticulturist will speak to Watauga County farmers in Boone on Wednesday November 19 at 10 00 am. He will discuss Irish potatoes and advocate higher production and the formation of a 400 bushel potato club to boost local farming.
The Appalachian State Teachers College Mountaineers defeated Atlantic University 6 to 0 at Virginia Beach led by Harris's second quarter touchdown after a long pass. Earlier they beat Naval Apprentices 7 to 0 at Newport News. La Parce scored fifty points as Booneville Highs were routed 65 to 0.

Len D Hagaman of Boone received the silver loving cup from the Gamma Sigma Epsilon chemical fraternity for the highest freshman chemistry average at Wake Forest College. His 97 average topped runners up Wilson F Britt of Severn 96.5 and LeRoy Lumpkin of Winston Salem 96.0. Hagaman is the son of County Superintendent Smith Hagaman and his achievement drew congratulations.
North Carolina voters swung heavily Democratic in a 1929 election, reducing Republican strength to eight seats in the General Assembly. Democrats won a full congressional delegation and 141 of 150 House seats, plus 48 of 50 Senate seats, reshaping state government and county offices.
A Cove Creek High School student chapter of Young Tar Heel Farmers was formed on October 10, 1930. Officers include President Albert Michael and Vice President Hardie Moody, with Raymond Farthing as secretary and Thomas Presnell as treasurer.

Federal court in Wilkesboro opens Monday November 17 with Judge Hayes in charge. A full docket and a two week term are planned. In the November 4 election Watauga County voters backed amendments and bonds with mixed results. Supreme Court expansion to seven seats failed 946 to 986 while property classification amendment passed 968 to 964. World War Veterans Loan Bonds earned 1629 For to 721 Against and solicitorial districts passed 1046 to 786.
