Jenkins Sentenced to Thirty Years in State Prison
John L. Jenkins was sentenced by Ashe Superior Court to 30 years in State's Prison for the fatal shooting of Joseph Beal. He was brought from Atlanta where he serves seven years for post office robbery and will transfer to State authorities after completing the sentence in Ashe County.

The program included a play Importance of Personal Appearance by Madge Hagaman Edith Thomas and Nora Sue Horton and a group No 2 prophecy read by Selma Hazel Thomas. The naming committee proposed Baste and Taste and received approval. Miss Madge Coble state assistant supervisor of home economics visited. Teachers attended the district meeting in Greensboro on Friday and Saturday.

Mr Clyde Greene of Balm recounted a snake tale in town. He killed two garter snakes and saw 126 seven inch young emerge alive from their carcasses before he dispatched them.
