A Monday evening wind and dust storm swept the valley causing major damage in North Wilkesboro. Mr. A. M. Chreh’s new house, nearly finished, was wrecked trapping workers and injuring several. Mr. A. A. Park’s new house was lifted from its foundation and moved to a neighboring lot. The Chronicle notes substantial destruction.
The Cape Fear and Cincinnati Railroad Company sent Col C J Cowles a map of their proposed line from Southport through Salisbury and Wilkesboro to Cincinnati. The vice president is expected soon as the firm, after years of contemplation, has recorded a nine million dollar mortgage at Southport for road construction. The Chronicle notes the project’s imminent start and expresses optimism.
