Washington March 24 Two earthquake shocks were recorded today by Georgetown University seismograph. The first quake began at 1 12 47 a m and lasted to 1 30 with an apparent 1600 mile distance. A second distant quake hit around 6 00 with maximum between 6 13 and 6 15. North Carolina farmers urged to use proper fertilizer types for their soils by agronomy workers.

Fire continues to burn in Mammoth vein area after long eruption

Gentry R F Dies at Jefferson After Illness
R F Gentry died at his Jefferson home after a brief influenza illness. He was 51, survived by his wife, six children, two brothers W E Gentry of Jefferson and Rev A H Gentry of Virginia, and a sister Mrs J G Horton of North Wilkesboro. Funeral at Jefferson Baptist Church and Masonic burial followed. Gentry was a longtime member of Jefferson lodge 219 A F and A M and a deacon and treasurer of the Baptist church. He had been editor of the Damascus News and recently joined the Northwestern Herald staff.
