H R Niswonger of State College predicts a large apple and peach crop in Watauga County. He urges early sprays to improve quality and control pests, detailing pink bud lime sulfur spray and calyx spray for apples and early peach sprays with arsenate of lead and lime.
A new school on methods of enforcement has opened in Atlanta with Webster Spates of Washington as the teacher. Dry agents from North and South Carolina Georgia and Florida attend to study court arrest and evidence procedures.
In Alturas California on March 15 Cassie Turner an Indian girl is brought before a white tribunal to answer for the slaying of Robert Decluté. Her defense states Decluté had asked her to shoot him after she refused marriage. Attorney Jack Sharp plans to argue that Decluté believed she would comply as readily as offering a glass of water.
In Fargo on March 20 the statewide primary pledged 13 votes for Frank O Lowden in the Republican convention and 10 for Alfred Smith in the Democratic, as unopposed presumptive nominees. The endorsement served only to select delegates to national conventions and name presidential electors.
The Watauga county Republican convention will meet at the courthouse at noon Saturday to elect delegates to state, congressional and judicial conventions. General sessions run April 10 11 and 12 at First Baptist church with departmental conferences Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at First Presbyterian and Central Methodist churches.

North Carolina public school enrollment for 1926 27 reaches 824 151 with white students 571 056 and Negro or Indian 253 095. Rural students total 615 488 and city students 208 663. State expects enrollment to double 1900 01 within three years. Nationally 30 million school age children in 1925 26 with 25 million in school and 20 million daily attendees.
North Carolina begins a first of its kind census of hunted game. Deputy Commissioner D P Wyke says 125000 return cards will be mailed to hunters to report numbers of birds and animals killed this season. Returns will gauge game supply and aid conservation efforts statewide.
John H. Taylor of Newland says the Democrat article alleging a coroner's jury verdict in Dula's death is false and demanded the other name. He disputes claims tying a man named Taylor to the case after Dula's fatal fall from a cliff following an apparent misstep.
In Wilkes Superior Court Judge Michael Schenck sentenced Hub Wagner to not less than 25 or more than 30 years in state prison for the Christmas Day 1926 murder of Dexter Byrd at Foscoe. The term runs concurrently with an earlier 15 to 20 year sentence for the Moody killing, yielding a possible 25 to 30 year minimum to maximum.
