Frank Clinard Paces Seventy Ninth Birthday in Hickory
Frank A. Clinard, a longtime Hickory resident born March 8, 1854 in Winston Salem, reached his seventy ninth birthday amid congratulations from many friends. He is said to be the oldest Mason in Hickory and his marriage to Gertrude Jones was the first church wedding here. Mrs. Clinard died last year, and he is noted for always wearing a flower in his buttonhole.

Tornado Kills Dozen in East Tennessee Suburb
A violent wind storm of hurricane strength struck East Tennessee Tuesday night, killing at least a score. Cherry Hill in Kingsport suffered seven deaths and over thirty injuries, with Pruden nine dead, Nashville three, Harrogate two, and Oswego one infant killed. Firefighting crews and volunteers aided the wounded, hospitals filled, and additional injured were moved to the Kingsport Inn after the structure fire.

Former College Student Sentenced to Life for Elevator Fire
Maurice C. Marshall twenty one pleaded guilty to murdering two firemen at the Kansas Missouri grain elevator fire on February eighteen nineteen thirty two and received life imprisonment. He confessed starting the blaze to obtain rebuilding work. Marshall, born in Illinois, had studied at Appalachian State Teachers College in 1929. Shipments of broccoli move from Scotland County by express as the harvest matures for carrot shipments.

Funeral for Charles Blair Held Near Boone
Funeral services were held Thursday for Charles Edwin Blair 60 who died Wednesday from general debility after a year of declining health. Rev P A Hicks of Boone Baptist Church conducted the obsequies and interment was in Boone Cemetery. Surviving are two half brothers Subins R Blair of Thomasville and H Neal Blair of Boone and a half sister Mrs J G Ballew of Lenoir. Blair was born and raised on the New River farm and spent his life in the area as a longtime Boone Baptist Church member.
