Ashe Murder Mystery Believed Cleared Up
West Jefferson Ashe County authorities say the murder case is solved after the decomposed body of Wes Kemp is found near the murder scene. Kemp had been sought for weeks for the Ellis Martin killing, with a vial of poison found with the body suggesting possible self destruction or fear of capture. Ellis Martin, a middle aged farmer, was found shot near his home on April 16 after neighbors heard shots the night before. The coroner's jury had previously ruled murder, but Kemp’s disappearance and absence of powder burns shifted the theory to a possible self-inflicted death in the Kemp-Martin case. The discovery ends the search and Kemp’s relatives will bury his remains.

Councill Cook Injured by Machinery at Boone Laundry
Mr Councill Cooke an employee of Boone Steam Laundry was injured Tuesday when an arm was caught in an extracting machine. He suffered a dislocated elbow and was taken to Watauga Hospital where the bones were reset. He is resting comfortably and escaped more serious harm.
