Community Club meets with county agents address

Valle Crucis rural notes report a Community Club meeting at the public school with address by county agent John Steele and Ashe county agent Crowell and Raleigh Agricultural official Fant. Also Sunday open air service at Warren Park with Methodist and Episcopal group led by Rev. Burke and a picnic follow. Visitors include Mrs Joe Moore and families from Lenoir and Montcalm West Virginia.

Foscoe Holds Dedication Of New Christian Church

The Foscoe community gathered Sunday to dedicate a new Christian church. Rev. E. Roy Gentry of Galax Virginia delivered the sermon. A lawn dinner followed with abundant food and a collection exceeding 800 dollars for the church. Several locals and visitors attended from Johnson City Tennessee and Todd. Annie Danner died at her home nearby after a brief illness.

Baptist Church Sunday Services and Extension Course

The Baptist Church announces Sunday School at 10 a.m. and BPU at 6 30 p.m. In the pastor's absence a substitute will lead the services on the 2nd 3rd and 4th Sundays. The state college extension division farm and home agents will hold a short course at the college July 14 through July 23 during the farmers convention.

Lost Provinces Seen As Rail Tie In Wider Route Fight

New Yorker Henry Belk reports from Greensboro and West Jefferson that Tom Bowie predicts a railroad through the Lost Provinces. Surveyors for Norfolk and Western study a link from Deep Gap toward Lenoir with freight gains in lumber and coal segments.

Democrats Nominate Strong County Ticket

The Democratic County Convention met at the courthouse on Monday with a large crowd and cordial spirit. Nominees include John E. Extension grants July 15 for North Carolina auto plates

North Carolina motorists have until July 15 to obtain state licenses and title registration after Secretary of State W N Everett extended the deadline from June 30. He visited branch offices noting long lines and stated drivers trading with the state will not be arrested for lapsed plates before July 15.

Will Hurdt shot by Sheriff during Smoky Mountain clash

The Elk Park News reports in Avery County that Will Hurdt and his nephew attempted to take charge of Smoky Mountain near Newland. Sheriff Vance and deputy Bowman confronted them. Hurdt was killed after exchanging shots, Vance was wounded, and Hurdt’s nephew fled but was captured. Vance is recovering in Grace hospital.

New Highway to Blowing Rock Opens Soon

A new direct Charlotte to Blowing Rock route will open July 10 as the Lincolnton to Newton section is paved and ready for traffic. The 18 mile 18 foot wide concrete stretch shortens the trip, with travel time about three hours from Charlotte, while a detour-free Statesville route remains longer.

Four-Page Issue Amid Power Outage Forces Shortened Sheet

Due to a shutdown in the electric power service yesterday the newspaper goes to press with four pages instead of eight. A busy day stopped our type casting and some copy is omitted. We promise the regular eight-page sheet next week.
