Mortimer Died by Self-Inflicted Wound in Johnson City
Edw H Mortimer prominent lumberman and former Elk Park resident died in a Johnson City Tennessee hospital Thursday from a pistol wound believed self inflicted the day before. He lunch with family then went to his office near the residence a shot followed by his brother finding him wounded. Funeral held Saturday at Johnson City with interment in City Cemetery survivors include widow a son a daughter and two brothers. Mortimer was known in Watauga for years of business dealings and his death shocked many friends.

Julius P Coffey Dies in Caldwell at 74
Julius P. Coffey a Caldwell County resident and longtime Boone and Watauga visitor died Saturday after a stroke and heart trouble. The 74 year old farmer with interests in cotton mills veneer plants and wagon works was buried Sunday at Philadelphia Church Mulberry with Elder R A May in charge. He is survived by his widow and adopted children.

Blowin Rock Youth Recovers From Self Inflicted Wound
Edwin Robbins a 16 year old son of Mr and Mrs Lee Robbins of Blowing Rock is believed recovering from a self inflicted gunshot wound suffered during a Saturday night incident. Reports say he was drinking and playing cards when his mother took him home and admonished him. The pistol fire struck the left lung though not the heart and hospital officials say his chances for recovery are good.

Bill Introduced to Confer Civil Jurisdiction on Watauga Recorder Court
Senator McNeill from Ashe proposes a bill to grant the Watauga County Recorder’s Court concurrent civil jurisdiction with Justices of the Peace and the Superior Court for actions involving contracts not exceeding 1000 dollars and noncontract actions not exceeding 500 dollars, with guidance from state statute. The measure was referred to Judiciary No 2 Committee in Raleigh.

Mrs Allen Perry Dies at Zionville Celebrated Boone County Resident
Mrs. Allen Perry, 59, lifelong Watauga County resident, died at her Zionville home on January 31 from heart trouble. Funeral services were February 2 at J. H. Mast graveyard conducted by Rev. Ed Hodges. Survivors include husband and six children: Mrs. C. L. Warren Zionville. Mrs. Clint Eggers Villas. Mrs. Floyd Greene Silverstone. Mrs. C. F. Eggers Forest Virginia. Hartley and Ralph Perry Silverstone. Perry lived in Boone while her husband led the county jail. She was an active Baptist and well regarded in Boone and the county.

Sparta Bank Looted by Yeggs in Overnight Heist
Yeggs forced an entrance to the Bank of Sparta Thursday night and robbed the safe of about $1,500 in bills and silver. The building was entered through a rear door and the safe opened by combination without explosives. No checks or bank papers were disturbed and no clues were left for officers.

Mrs Earp of the China section under the mountain near Blowing Rock died Sunday night from pneumonia. Interment was Monday. Five children survive.
