Blowing Rock Jan 29 The Brown Mountain light is identified as the Adams Mountain light not Brown Mountain. Investigators from the U S Geological Survey and National Geographic differ on origin, but George R Mansfield offers a simple cause: eye level sightline to the Catawba valley with electric lights and locomotive headlights visible from Blowing Rock. The phenomenon varies in color and appears at dusk and about ten.
