Donald Boyden and an unnamed northern syndicate are reported leading bidders for Mayview Manor. Boyden has raised the previous offers by ten percent. the syndicate’s bid amount is undisclosed. The federal court will review the case in January.
The people of Boone and Watauga county viewed the new Ford automobile during a one day exhibit by Taylor Motor Company last Saturday. An estimated 1000 to 1200 attendees studied the car, which features four wheel brakes, new transmission, high acceleration, 60 mph capability, a vibrationless engine and stylish design. R D Hodges praised Henry Ford's claim and predicted the car will make history in the automotive industry.
Washington dispatch reports the remodeled McNary-Haugen farm relief bill crossing to the House with hearings planned for January 16. Chairman Haugen announced a revised proposal aimed to streamline hearings and push the measure to the floor after less controversial legislation. The core is an equalization fee on all crops after a declared farm board emergency.

H. Montgomery Wellborn died at Dr. B E Reeves's home in West Jefferson after months of illness with heart trouble. Aged about 70, he descended from Hugh Montgomery and was a college contemporary of Charles B Aycock. Once state senator for Ashe Alleghany Watagua, he later lost to Robert L Doughton. His remains were interred at Wilkesboro.
Watauga Post No 130 American Legion names a committee to plan a legion band. The post approves an itemized receipts and disbursements report and urges members to file adjusted compensation by December 31. A $5 gold prize is offered for the member who brings in the most new members before January's meeting.
George Remus is found not guilty by insanity in the murder case of his wife Imogene. The jury of ten men and two women delivers the verdict after Judge C R Shook limits options, prompting Remus to proclaim American justice as cheers erupt in the courthouse.
Washington special reports Senator Overman said the confirmation of Judge Hayes would be postponed until after the holidays. Witness lists and a $1000 check related to Hayes and Jones were filed with the judiciary committee as part of the case. A Republican lawyer offered to work pro bono, arguing the charges were not new.
Cove Creek high school closed December 9 due to a measles outbreak with 99 cases and will reopen January 2 after the holidays. Mid term exams will follow, with many new pupils expected. Attendance averaged 350 over three months as ground work continues and local families relocate.

Raleigh December 16 Governor A W McLean told state organizations and master farmers that North Carolina needs master farmers with broad education. He urged formal study in chemistry soil marketing and cost accounting and praised graduates for leading in agriculture. He cited boll weevil setbacks but urged education as the farmer’s greatest need.
Benton Harbor Mich December reports Benjamin Purnell the self styled king of the House of David is dead but his followers await his rising from the dead before the fourth day. Health officials allowed delay to honor their belief. Purnell taught he would lead 144 000 elect to everlasting life on earth.
Judge Roy I. Deal told the Buncombe county grand jury that certainty of punishment deters crime and that newspapers can aid in crime prevention by reporting conservatively on crime and punishment in his final charge of the year.
