Ransom Horton a young negro man in this community apparently shot himself in the forehead with a small-bore gun Tuesday afternoon. He regained consciousness within minutes and was taken to Grace Hospital Banner Elk for treatment. An alcohol fueled illness is said to have led to the act. no one else was present and Horton has offered no explanation.

Evans 82 Dies From Logging Accident After Operation
Mayford C. Evans aged 82 died Sunday at Banner Elk Hospital after an operation for injuries from over exertion while logging. Rev. P. A. Hicks conducted the graveside services and interment was in the cemetery near Whaley. He survived by a widow two children his father and mother three sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services for Glenn Wyke age 22 were held at his parents home in Boone with Rev. P A Hicks of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at Hines graveyard one mile west of the city. Wyke died after a fall from a high portico at Mayview Manor Blowing Rock during an altercation. He never regained consciousness after being taken to Caldwell Hospital in Lenoir. Active pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were named along with flower bearers. The service drew a large crowd of friends and relatives.

Infant Nancy McGhee Dies After Brief Illness
Eight month old Nancy Jurney McGhee died Tuesday evening at the R C Rivers home after a short illness with croup. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the home conducted by Rev J H Brendall Jr., with interment in the city cemetery. A large group attended and flowers covered the tiny grave. The community extends sympathy to Mrs Velma Rivers McGhee and the family.
