2000 Small Fish for New Rearing Pools
Two hundred fry ranging from half to one inch are now in Marion and Boone hatcheries awaiting release into Caldwell County rearing pools. Water was added yesterday. filling will take several days. Pools near the Blowing Rock Highway hold 75 000 brook trout 25 000 brown trout 50 000 rainbow trout and 50 000 bass ready to grow to fingerling size before distribution to local streams.

Rails 72 Years Old Dug Up on Watauga Farm
While cleaning drain ditches on Carroll Adams’s farm near Silverstone laborers uncovered three preserved water oak rails buried since 1858 by the grandfather of A W Smith Boone Postmaster. The rails remain firm and blue tinted and may be seasoned into souvenirs by descendants of the pioneer.
