Mr. Donald J. Boyden, who has run the Governor Taylor Hotel in Elizabethton, Tennessee, is en route to Blowing Rock to prepare the Blowing Rock Hotel for opening. He expects to open on May 1 this year as reservations suggest an early start. Prospects for the summer season at the Rock are bright.

Superior Court Opens Two-Week Spring Term in Watauga
The Watauga Superior Court begins a two week spring session led by Judge P A McElroy. Two homicide cases are set for trial Ed Stokes of Cove Creek charged with slaying Ivy Greene and Ephriam Wallace of Beech Creek charged with fatally shooting Thurston Oliver during Christmas holidays. The docket also includes about a hundred total cases with sixty civil matters, and the court expects the two week term to clear the busy schedule.

About three hundred Republicans met in the county courthouse for a January convention. Russell D. Hodges was re-elected chairman for two years with Clyde R. Greene as secretary treasurer. The body filled township executive posts and chose delegates to the Congressional and State Conventions. Resolutions endorsed the Hoover Administration and Charles A. Mrs. W. D. Norris Dies at 75 in Boone Route 2 Home
Mrs. W D Norris aged 75 died at her Boone Route 2 home Saturday evening after a heart attack about thirty minutes earlier. A longtime Howards Creek Baptist Church member she was active in charity. Funeral services were held Sunday at 10 am from the old home with Rev W C Payne and Rev Robert Shore officiating, burial in Sands graveyard. Banner Elk Lady Laid to Rest After Easter Service
Mrs. Eliza Lowrance, 62, died at her Banner Elk area home on Easter Sunday after a long illness. Funeral services were held at Advent Christian Church in Foscoe with Rev. S. E. Gragg, and interment followed in the community cemetery beside a Revolutionary War veteran grandfather. Surviving are husband W. M. Lowrance and eight children, all present for the funeral. She had belonged to the Advent Church 85 years and lived mostly in Skulls Mills and Foscoe, active in church work and known as a kind neighbor.
