Ways To Poison Mexican Beetle
The Mexican bean beetle devastated parts of Watauga county last season and is expected to spread about 30 miles annually. Remedies include magnesium arsenate sprays or dusts, calcium arsenate mixtures, and calcium fluosilicate dusts, applied to the undersides of leaves with careful calibration to avoid harming bean plants.

Robbins Succeeds In Mountain Nursery Business
Pinela resident Ed Robbins owner of Kelsey nurseries now Gardens of the Blue Ridge visited the city. He reports over 1.4 million marketable shrubs and plants across most mountain species. Last year expenses reached 70 000 with 2000 traveling costs and 2000 income tax. Robbins plans a new farm to meet growing demand and notes Harland Kelsey started the nursery in Linville in 1870s but earned little success.

Mail route change rejected as too costly for Boone Cranberry link
Washington officials say the Postal Service would spend 3505.94 dollars annually to provide a mail service requested by the Boone chamber of commerce and residents between Boone and Cranberry. Fishing Licenses On Sale At Clerk Office
New state county and non-resident fishing licenses arrived at the clerk of the court Tuesday and are ready. State licenses cost residents two dollars and non-residents three dollars, while the county license is one dollar for all. A certificate number is printed on each license. Clerk South said only about fifty were available and urged anglers to come at once.

Girl who testified against man gets prison term
Marie Jackson of Jackson Kentucky, 27, pleaded guilty to false swearing in circuit court and received the maximum five year sentence. She testified against Conda Dabney of Coal Creek Tennessee in his murder trial, which led to his life sentence and later pardon. Dabney claimed jealousy as motive for her testimony.
